Just south of Charleston, SC there is an abandoned lighthouse where the island has eroded over time, leaving the lighthouse stranded out in the currents. It is both haunting and beautiful. It is the Morris Island lighthouse.

What is a Tithe
The giving of the tithe, literally a tenth, is an Old Testament principle in which God’s people gave a portion of their increase back to the Levites to provide for their welfare, to provide for the work of their ministry, and to help the widows and the poor. The spirit of this principle carries through to us today.

Dedicated to the Lord
To be dedicated is to be set apart, to be committed and devoted to a cause, ideal or purpose. For a Christian parent to bring their child before the church and dedicate their child to God they are committing themselves to bringing up their child in a Godly way. They are setting their child apart for the Kingdom of God. And they are continuing a tradition that dates back to the first Jewish passover.

Why We Tithe
Our understanding of why we give begins with a grateful heart acknowledging that everything we have comes from God. He gives it to us and simply asks us to use it well for his kingdom, for our benefit, and for the benefit of those around us. This is the first principle that should influence all that we do, especially in the area of our finances.
